Winnie In Indonesia | Medan

HELLO EVERYONE!
Wow it took so long for me to edit this due to long schedules, but here it is! If you don't already know, I'm Half-Indonesian. I basically went to Indonesia to visit my family and to also attend my uncle's wedding. I went there for 17 days so i won't be talking about my days in terms of 'Day 1, Day 2 etc.' Anyways just wanna mention that there were so many other moments that happened which i did not capture on my camera. I kid you not, there were tons of them :( But hey, some were captured on video so keep on reading as there is a vlog at the end of this post!

My hometown in Indonesia is Medan. It was a really short 1 hour flight ^_^

I have no idea what is up with my camera lens with those black spots, even after I cleaned it several times -_- Somebody please tell me why -cries-

And finally, i arrived in Medan with the happy face of my grandpa welcoming us at the airport ^_^ We head off for lunch at Ayam Penyet Cindelaras straight after that.

Indonesia have the best Ayam Penyet, really. If you ever come to Indonesia, you have to at least get a sip of the famous, Tehbotol!

Here's a photo of my favourite Indonesian chips, Chitato!

Jagung Bakar (Grilled Corn) is seriously the best in Indonesia! It's something i look forward to eating everytime i visit there. I have no idea what sauce they add to this yummy juicy corn but i think its like buttered with amazing flavours of sweet, salty and a hint of spicyness at the same time. You have to try it, its amazing.

I went to Indonesia's very-own famous J.CO! Wow, you guys have no idea how long since i last ate J.CO. As a crazy donut lover, I was seriously so excited digging into those donuts!!

My favourite was Mr. Green Tea donut! I love green tea so much, it's soooo good.

There's always something interesting to look at along the road in Indonesia. There's never a time you wouldn't hear honks, the road is always busy.

After J.CO, we ate lunch at Mie Sop Kampung. Had amazing Nasi Goreng and i dig into my mum's Bakso too teehee couldn't resist!
There are so many variety of drinks listed on the menu in Indonesia and most of them are usually fruit juices. In my case here, I ordered Guava Juice and my cousin Sonya got Orange Juice. Bear in mind, the orange juice you get there isn't your typical sour kind, it's really sweet and refreshing!

I got to ride becak (rickshaw) again after so long!! In Singapore, people who use public transports usually travel by bus, taxi or train. In Indonesia, their typical public transports are becak, ojek ("motorcycle taxi"), public vans and sometimes taxis.  The journey is sometimes bumpy because of the bad road structures there but i'm not gonna lie, i totally miss it!

Did grocery shopping with my family! Unknowingly, i got warned by the security for taking photos hahaha so i had to stopped which didn't bother me much because i managed to capture a few before it happened :P

Oh why did my aunt have to blink at the wrong timing, hahaha!

My little cousin is super cute!!

Ducks at my grandpa's backyard!

Riding the motorcycle was one of the many things i look forward when i go back to visit Indonesia. Its super fun and thrilling! I don't get to ride it in Singapore but in Indonesia i got to ride it very often as many of my family members owned them.

I also went swimming with my cousins but unfortunately it started raining halfway :(

Food cart is everywhere in Indonesia. You will typically hear bell ringing or sometimes even music for ice cream cart around the neighbourhood. My cousins and I heard the bell and we literally ran out with excitement and stopped the uncle hahaha! There are so many variety of breads to chose and they're all sooo good that we bought so many. But my favourite is the one on stick with chocolate sprinkles and cream, soooo good. I totally remember eating that all the time when i was a little kid.

We went to the village filled with my mum's childhood memories! It was a very long journey that literally took about 9 hours to get there. But nevertheless, it was a really fun road trip! We ate snacks and blast off loud music in the car. Here's a photo where we stopped for a break and we ate the kfc takeaways we bought earlier. Indonesia's KFC is really cool, they serve it with rice and its really yummy eating the fried chicken with rice!
The place we stopped was actually the Lake Toba! Many tourists go there to hike and also to kayak. Lake Toba is about 4 hours away from the village and i was so captured by the view especially having my supper by this amazing view! It was so cold up there, the sea breeze was so cooling.

Finally arrived at the village after long hours! So much misses, the last time i came was 6 years ago!!

My mum holding a little durian that fell off from the tree!

The village is really cold and its probably because its located at mountain area. Look at that foggy sky! It feels like an air-conditioned room everywhere hahahaha!

One of the things i look forward going back to the village, the cocoa fruit!! If you never heard of this fruit, it is absolutely amazing and this is where chocolates come from! I personally think it taste similar to soursop and the seeds are meant to be processed and turn into chocolate! Amazing isn't it?

One of the particular reason we went there was to visit my late-grandma's grave! I missed her so much and all the memories we created together  We walked by this pretty rice paddy field and i got to see the villagers harvesting the crops. It was an amazing cold and sunny morning with the rooster crowing.

We didn't stayed overnight at the village but we continued another 4 hours of car ride to my aunt's place which is a city located in another part of Indonesia called Sibolga. I got to meet two more of my cute cousins too! We all had dinner that night at a restaurant.

He is so annoyingly cute!! Beware guys, he is an absolute ice cream lover and always eats ice cream whenever he can hahahaha.

And here is my favourite uncle of all time, Uncle Samuel! He's the best uncle and he's super smart. I know he reads my blog, hahaha hello!!! Jangan lupa nonton videonya juga :P

We all went back to Medan for the long awaited of my Uncle's wedding! (for your info, it's not uncle samuel hahaha) We woke up super early about 5am in the morning to get our hair and makeup done by a makeup artist. I got to wear false lashes for the first time and it feels very uncomfortable to be honest, but i got used to it later on.  Had our prayers at my grandpa's house and then we went off to the bride's place.

My family are batak people and this is the traditional batak wedding where we do prayers and blessings with rice. I actually have no idea how to explain this tradition because i don't even quite understand it fully hahaha! Here's a photo of my aunt carrying the rice.

I got to hold the wedding bouquet too. Feels like i'm the one getting married! HAHAHAHA

I didn't quite like the hairstyle tho :( My hair had to be teased and i personally don't like it. The hairstylist styled my fringe on the right side instead of my usual left so it was kinda awkward for me. Who else's fringe is on the left side? Over the years, i have trouble finding someone having the same side fringe as i do because everyone's fringe is always on the right side. Am i weird? Oh well, i'll just count myself special HAHAHA!

After the bride's house, we headed off to church at the chapel.

Aunt Olivia, yes my AUNT. I'm not kidding like woah i still cannot believe she's my aunt. She's my smallest aunt and also the sister of my uncle, samuel! I love her, she's too adorable!! My sister and aunt olivia below ^_^

Sadly two days after my uncle's wedding, it was time for us to return back to Singapore! I'm already missing my big family there and i can't wait to go back again next time.

This toasty was so good. I have obsession with melted cheese, yummm.

Our flight was in the evening and i got to see sunset for the first time ever on a plane! I always take a really late night flight or an afternoon flight but i think this was my first ever evening flight. The sky was so beautiful!!

Here's the vlog of my trip!
